“I came to Ed Schaefer in February 2003, with an idea for a small archtop. From blocks of wood and a drawing in February to an amazing instrument in July! It is beautiful in every way. The acoustic tone is rich and very focused. There are no dead spotsanywhere on the neck, and it has a wonderfully clear and precise tone. The instrument feels great to play, it is extremely comfortable to hold and is one of the most visually beautiful instruments I have ever seen. Ed is an extraordinary luthier and a true artist!”

“The first time I played a Schaefer, I knew I would have to own one some day. Playing with Sammo Miltich in the Clearwater Hot Club, I’ve had the pleasure of hearing his in the jazz setting. Now that I have my very own Freddy, I’ve begun using it for my solo singer-songwriter performances, too. Everything about it makes it a pure joy to play – the tone is amazing, both acoustic and plugged in, the neck plays effortlessly, the size makes it easy to hold, and it looks simply amazing. Ed, I am honored to play your guitar. Best of luck back in Texas. ”

“Ed literally made a dream come true when he built my new Schaefer guitar. I have always wanted a big box guitar that would be a comfort to play. The lower bout on my new guitar is full size at 17 1/2 inches however the upper bout was reduced to 12 inches so it won’t cut into my chest. Also for added comfort, the thickness was reduced to 3 inches. The guitar has a big acoustic sound without the “Big box guitar” awkwardness. At my request, Ed also placed a built-in pickup at the 20th fret, right in the sweet spot! It’s the tone I’ve been searching for, dark and rich but doesn’t get lost. Here’s the kicker, it still has great access all the way to the 18th fret, a high Bb. Along with my special requirements Ed did so much more. He built in some of his unique features that most Schaefer’s guitars share like sustain for days, an expanded nut width, 25″ scale, a 5 piece fiber reinforced neck with great neck dimensions, beautiful inlays, high frets, ebony fretboard, it’s got it all. What can I say except “Thanks Ed”, for creating a dream come true by building the “Seversong”.”

“Ed Schaefer’s archtop guitars are as fine as any I’ve played. They’re not only amazing instruments when amplified, but their acoustic quality is superior to any other I’ve had in my hands. Ed’s guitars are very playable, and put a guitarist at ease as soon as he or she begins to play. They create a beautiful sound, and they’re beautiful to behold”
