From Building to Repairs!

As most of you know I have retired from building archtops because my hands just can’t take the beating anymore! I was going to continue building my Mule Team Solid Body line. I have sold the rights to that model and it will continue to be built right here in Austin, Texas. Details of availability will be posted soon!!
I will be focusing on doing repairs now! That is where I started 40 years ago (At Rhythm Band Instrument Co. in FW, TX) and I will get back to doing repairs full-time here in AUSTIN, TEXAS!!!!!! Please help me spread the word……expert work and fast turnaround times…..I will also do emergency repairs!!!!!!

No longer building arch tops

As of now I am no longer building arch tops. My reasons are physical… my hands are taking too much of a beating. But I am building solid body Mule Teams and perhaps, a few flat tops.

Rest in peace, John Brinkman. Your shows were always the best and I always felt welcome there. Thanks for all you did and for being a friend. – Ed.
John is responsible for revolutionizing guitar shows and making it an event for all of the public.
Below is John’s obituary.
To the guitar show community:
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our longtime partner John Brinkmann on Tuesday, October 8, 2013.  In recent years, John had experienced a myriad of medical conditions, including diabetes and a heart problem.  John was born in 1937 in Iowa, and came to Texas with his family in 1969 to serve as manager at Success Motivation Institute in Waco.  The most important thing in John’s life has always been his family.  In 1956, John  married the love of his life, Ruth, who is also a native of Iowa.  They raised four children.. Jacque, Jenine, John Jr. and Janalle.  In the early days John was a talent promoter, booking some of the better-known country and folk acts all over the U.S.  He was an accomplished guitarist, and preferred arched top guitars to accommodate his “Travis” fingerpicking style.
In 1978, John, along with Danny Thorpe and Charlie Wirz, founded the Greater Southwest Guitar Show, a pioneering effort that had far-reaching and long-lasting consequences.  In 1984, John joined with Larry Briggs, owner of Strings West in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Dave Crocker, owner of Fly-By-Night Music in Neosho, Missouri, to form Texas Guitar Shows, Inc.  After producing shows in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, the Amigos, in 1986, held one of the first events in the brand new Arlington Convention Center.  Arlington is now the largest show of its kind in the country.  Eugene Robertson joined the group in 1988.  Since 1984, John and his three partners have organized over 180 shows in Texas, Illinois, Tennessee and California.
John never lost his passion for the music business, and until recently operated Waco Vintage Instruments in Mansfield, Texas.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the John G. Brinkmann Memorial Music Scholarship.  Donations may be mailed to Blessing Home, 401 Elm Street, Mansfield, Texas 76063, or accepted in person at the booth set up in John’s honor and memory at the upcoming Guitarlington 2013 show in Arlington, Texas.  The extended family will be present at the show to honor the vision and love John had for the vendors, the instruments and the industry.
Sincerely yours,
The John Brinkmann Family
and Dave, Larry and Eugene.

Frank D’Rone

Frank D’Rone
I’m sad to say my good friend and incredible musician frank D’Rone passed away October 3. One of the warmest and kindest people I’ve ever met in my life and one of the finest jazz vocalists and guitarists I have EVER heard. What is considered his best album, his latest, Double Exposure features a Schaefer Jazz Singer on every cut. I’m honored to be his friend and my thoughts and prayers are with Joan and the family. The Chicago Tribune wrote a nice article about Frank.
